Hello from Iloilo. I've been home for a few days now and am browsing away. I missed the laid back life. Awakened by the roosters, hearing birds chirp, breezy air at night and too many kids day by day. I love it every time I am home for vacation.

Despite the happy days and carefree moments, there is a sad news. My iPhone is in comma and manong said it can be fixed but I have to pay a third of the original price of a new one. Errh. No thanks. I will check out Greenhills and see if they can revive it.

In the middle of my iPhone woes, I am torn between getting a new phone (4S) or staying frugal and settling with an ancient mobile. I need reviews and opinions about getting a new one. Globe offers a good deal. I can get the 1799 plan with P4800 cash out. I will get unlidata plan and consumable amount of 800 plus freebies like calls and messages to globe numbers or any freebie which is listed with Globe. Makes it more difficult.

Omigahd. Can someone gimme a review (links) for 4S? I really need one.

I hope I can delay gratification! So help me God.

The Year and Quarter that was.

2011 is a year I never expected it to be. Started mellow dramatic and peaceful yet boring, I never thought I would have a blast for the last quarter.
Let me give you a blow by blow account for the year that was. Though am not too certain about the events in the first part. lol

I spent Christmas of 2010 in Iloilo with family since my brother was home for the Holidays. However, I needed to be back in Manila for work. So I spent New Year away from family for the first time and enjoyed the it with my colleagues while on shift. I had a so so valentines and summer. The early days of the year did not bring any big deal.

I dated, met new friends, visited few places, acquired my very first Longchamp tote, shopped and did few crazy things. Yet I still see it ordinary and boring.

There was a time when I was so depressed and tried everything from shopping, eating and treating myself out. I thought it can wipe away the sadness and loneliness within me. I was wrong. That was the time I was crying myself to sleep for I can't find the reason why am so lonely. The burden of being away from my family added up and bam! I was lost.

I had some days where am locked in my room for 24 hours with sardines and biscuits watching downlaoded movies and doing Gossip Girl marathon. (Includes bio breaks and bath time)

Dreams do come true when my cousin from the States sent me an iPhone. Never did I imagine that I'd own one. Well, you gotta work for what you want in life. Sometimes one word can do wonders.

Then I realized I am missing on something. I needed something that can fill my life. An everlasting one.

Been close to a year since the last time I went to church. Then suddenly, God intervened. An old friend resurfaced mid August. I ignored it and moved on with my boring and robotic life.

September came. My birthday month.

It was the month I went back to Destiny Church too. It is kind of a long story so am skipping it. September 18 will always be memorable as it is my mom's bday and the day I kew I belong to Destiny. The feeling was real and estatic.

It was a first that I stayed home and slept the whole day. Like WHOLE DAY. Weird, sad and all but I had a blast at the office with friends on the eve of my day. So I guess it is not that bad. They surprised me with a scrapbook full of meaningful messages. Well wishes and funny remarks.

October. I had my encounter with God. One of the highlights and I would never trade anything for it. At last I was able to push through the experience. Priceless.

There are so many memories 2011 had given me. Some are uber sad but majority are priceless learning experience. The fun times are worth the pain and sadness I had in the first half of the year.

No matter how we hate our life, always remember you were not born for yourself alone. You are born to bless people and to be blessed awesomely by GOD. He works in the dark to give you light and freedom.

Always dream and put it to actions. You will never know what you will accomplish.

Be crazy yet responsible. Be a giver. You will receive more and it is healthy for the heart.

Embrace change, you can not always go well with it but you can change your attitude towards it.

Simple, fun and everything in between. That is how I look at 2012. Major changes too. I will try hard to do things that I promised and this time, I will try hard to keep my word.

"There are so many questions to be answered. I don't even know where to start. I guess I can only hope in time, the whole and accurate story will be the one told. It may be too long to write now, but I know a short statement is in order.

"Currently, I'm in disarray because of how fast and unexpected this has all become. I'm confused on whether I should do any interviews or just keep silent about the whole thing. One moment I think I should explain, the other I think I should shut up. I don't even know anymore.

"I am disappointed about the video. I'm saddened about the rumors of its upload. Most of all, I'm ashamed at myself for the loss of our child. It was something I never wanted to happen. It went against my every value and until this very day, it makes me breakdown in tears—something I never have moved on from—I don't think any parent can.

"Of course it was done with utmost regret and I still wonder if I did all that I can to prevent it from happening. I thought I did, but I ultimately sided with the decision of my girlfriend, because I was put against a wall, to a point where I had to choose between the safety of the person that I love and the life of our child.

"As you have heard or read in the video, I do not blame Rhian for our actions even though it was no one else's choice. The pressure on her was too great.

"Am I upset at her? No. However, I do feel sad about the opinions of the people who are closest to her. You see, I am pro-life. I know we all have a different stance about this sensitive topic, but I am and have always been such.

"You may ask why I still allowed for it to happen and my answer is, I don't know. I thought I tried and prayed enough for the circumstances to change but it did not. And I know I will pay for this for the rest of this life and beyond...

"After this intense ordeal last year, I recently found out this wasn't the only time. It was in this moment that I felt my world crash. I hope you don't find this as hypocritical of myself, but you cannot get away with killing children—I included.

"I made the video as a memento of this tragic event and that it should never happen again. It was meant for me to always remind myself that we paid an enormous sacrifice for this job and this relationship.

"I had no choice, I was not asked my thoughts—it was just going to be the way it went. So I made videos and I kept all the memories that I could hold onto.

"Rhian knew about all of this. To a point where months ago, when they thought a lawyer was needed to aid in our breakup, that I was asked to surrender all of this 'proof' (as they called it) to them for it to be destroyed.

"I naturally gave in to their request, because for the second time, I chose my girlfriend over the memory of our child. I specifically asked them to not destroy it, to please return it to me 50 years from now when all this showbiz priorities and 'branding' wouldn't mean so much anymore. Along with my files, they took my computer and erased it in front of me.

"This was all documented by her legal staff.

"Until this very day, I love Rhian very much. We had to lie to the public about our ongoing relationship and I understood why. I would never want to hurt her and I tried my best to protect her when rumors of past abortions would surface. I aggressively pursued bloggers and other people who had info of past incidents and told them to be quiet.

"They know who they are. Unfortunately, we find ourselves here today. People are in possession of these videos. I know that the copies in my laptop were not the only ones destroyed. In a brown envelope, I handed these files to the family and begged them to salvage them. My laptop may have been compromised. I really don't know. There will be rumors for a long time, I am aware of that, but it will not hurt as much as the memory of what truly happened—we lost our child and I have not moved on from it.

"I am aware that GMA would like to prosecute me for this. I would like to apologize to the network for putting them in a bad light. This decision to have an abortion was not something the network instructed us to do... I understand that and I am sorry if the words on my 'video diary' depicted otherwise.

"I'm sorry to Rhian that our rollercoaster relationship ended the way it did. There was much more going on than people know. But I love you. I always have. I have been following Mo since I had twitter. I know he is undergoing such painful experience. A sad account where you can see and feel the heartaches and bitterness.

I do not know how they can surpass this issue but I strongly pray that they will seek repentance and would live the past behind and start something new.

They are blessed because they praise him more in bad times or good times.

I write these things because I am one of those people who find those righteous people annoying before. I have been skeptical about it but I never doubted God.

No Other Woman Gross Income

The current gross income of the film is around 275 million already. Wheew!

He did it again.

He surprised me with something really good and well yeah never expected to have it.

Few weeks ago, I was a little sad about my monthly stats at the office. I did not think that I can still have a higher score since I did not meet some of the metrics.

It was hard to think of it as September is my month and having such a low score was the last thing I expected.

Earlier, my team leader had one of our one to one sessions for this month. I went to his cubicle and looked into the score sheet asking who's score is that? He then answered, uh, yours!?

Haha I can't believe I had a high score. I mean really HIGH score for the whole year am with the company.

Praise GOD!

Encounter with GOD

I spent the best weekend with God. I know I have so much to tell and I am overwhelmed about the whole experience. It feels so good to be with your creator. It is like you are truly home and loved.

Next to God, my family is my priority. They give me fuel so that God's fire keeps on burning. I love how I am now and God's vision for me too.

I know this will be a long drive or path but am pretty sure enough that God is enough to keep me strong and not be weathered by anything.

I pray that more people will encounter Him and live the life that I have. I pray for more souls to be saved and have everlasting happiness.

I am truly blessed and renewed.

I checked my blog stats and found out that too many people have been wondering about the luxury resort in No Other Woman movie. So let me enlighten you more about the resort.

A Whale or A Mermaid?

A while back, at the entrance of a gym, there was a picture of a very thin and b...eautiful woman. The caption was "This summer, do you want to be a mermaid or a whale?"

The story goes, a woman (of clothing size unknown) answered the following way:

"Dear people, whales are always surrounded by friends (dolphins, seals, curious humans), they are sexually active and raise their children with great tenderness.

They entertain like crazy with dolphins and eat lots of prawns. They swim all day and travel to fantastic places like Patagonia, the Barents Sea or the coral reefs of Polynesia.

They sing incredibly well and sometimes even are on cds. They are impressive and dearly loved animals, which everyone defend and admires.
Mermaids do not exist.

But if they existed, they would line up to see a psychologist because of a problem of split personality: woman or fish?

They would have no sex life and could not bear children.

Yes, they would be lovely, but lonely and sad.

Without a doubt, I'd rather be a whale.

No Other Woman

SPOILER ALERT.

I am fresh from the cinema. I did not want to wait for the weekend to see the film as I have been so damn excited the moment I saw the trailer. So there I was lining up in the cinema with 5 hours of sleep. I was surprised to see the number of movie goers from all walks of life. Some were tweeting and posting updates in Facebook. There's No Other Woman fever!

Fast Forward. The movie met my expectations. I love every sarcasm that was showcased. I am a sucker for twisted lines and idioms so I guess the writer of the movie is brilliant.

These caught my attention:

• Kara's bags are spelled with LUXURY. Hermes, Chanel, Dior etc. Heiress ka ba naman!
• Cha's make up is so light, maybe because she plays the role of a simple chic wife. (Or because Cristine was in the hospital for weeks) Oh she used MAC pala. Nice choice of color.
• Ram's butt. Period.
• Carmi's role is awesome, she threw her lines perfectly.
• The catfight did hurt I guess.
• The resort! Thunderbird Resort never fails to amaze me. Santorini-ish ambiance is my kind of Vacation.
• The ending is not tragic at all.
• I felt the pain (from both women) and almost cried in some scenes.
• The furniture are sexy. Posh and again luxurious.

Hope you get to enjoy the movie as much as I did. It was all about lessons of love and fidelity. A man would always have someone they love and it would take a ballistic world for them realize that.

Adobo theory. Men love to try other women but at the end of the day, they would choose the original and their favorite. Not fair. Am not being a feminist here, I am just pointing out the story about men since I know women have their own Adobo theory with a different recipe.
No one died, no one went psychotic and the wifey won. There! Three important points for the whole story. =) Don't hate me, I warned you.

My Kind of Man

If you are going to ask me ten years back of what my kind of man is, maybe there's no big difference to what I prefer now.

I wanted a tall, hopeless romantic and appreciative man when I was in high school. I guess I still want the same man with add-ons.

I have few serious crush right now. Mo Twister is on top of the list. Older, witty, humorous and sassy personality. What can I ask for? He may be short, but his heart is so huge it can't fit his chest. LOL. People find him arrogant and too straightforward. I find him sexy.

A colleague is giving me butterflies in my stomach. He is taken though. As if I mind. It's just a mere crush. His shoulders and biceps gives me goosebumps. Shallow but true. He is smart too. He is an inspiration and he makes my working day bearable.

Here is a list of what I want and adore:

A man of his word. A good man is someone honest and does not give you false hopes. He does not break any promises and if he does, he makes sure to make up for it.
A man with overdeveloped neurons. I can deal or be with a man who is way smart than a guy whos way good looking but erh.. uhm... nevermind.
Funny but I prefer a man who is articulate and can really speak in English so well. Nothing against guys who can't. I just love how we can converse in a really good manner. Easier to convey and music to my ears.

Someone who is a fast learner and who gets what I say in an instant. I hate repeating myself. It annoys me and triggers my bitchy hormones.

A man who is not so much into S-x. I don't wanna be lead on. Makes me feel like they are taking advantage of me.

A sweet and romantic man who still believes in chivalry. I guess it is because I still have a feminine (super) side who melts when it comes to sweet gestures.

Someone who can be really independent and not a mama's boy. It irritates me. I am independent so it should follow.

Someone who can pull off too many surprises.

A man who can deal with hormones in any way.

The most important thing would be a man who loves God in his own way.

I guess the whole idea of my dream man is kind of scarce in this generation. Who cares, I know God will give me the best that I deserve.

I now conclude that I have a strong animal character. This is because of too many animal printed pieces in my closet. I found out that I have snakeskin, croc skin, leopard, zebra and dalmatian prints! LOL. Major one.

I think I just love oozing with confidence every time I wear them. It gives character and the bizarre prints are making me feel so strong and so right.

Wish List 2011: Silver Year

My silver year is coming in 5 days and I am having this mixed emotions. I am happy where I am now. Let me enumerate the reasons.

I have an awesome support system. Talk about really good and humble family, my folks never fail to support me. They only push me harder and remind me constantly to stay grounded and happy.

I can never ask for more when it comes to my friends list. I have crazy people and really dependable ones. Never fail to amaze me everyday. Some may have a different time zone, some may be engrossed with their lovers, and some may be real lunatic (that is why we are friends) and some may not care at all. Heck, complexity is essential to real friendship anyway.
Financially, I can say am kind of stable and hoping I will still be in the next 20 or 30 years. I got myself a lot back home and never had an overdue balance for any of my cc. Despite the love for luxury bags and killer heels, I remain FRUGAL as ever.

In the Health department, I must say I am a mediocre. I am taking it for granted just because I can not cook for myself and am compelled to settle with fast-food and blah cuisine from the office pantry. Almost forgot to mention about the need to exercise. If only I can start using the running shoes I bought almost a year ago, I guess I’ll have more men looking at the curves instead of the twinnies. LOL. But… I need to get rid of lazy habits and procrastination first. IKR.

Love. A vague and complicated word in my life. I once said “It is the saddest and happiest word for me”. True enough, I have been single for the last three years. I just think I wanna wait for the right one, right love and right time. Cliché it may sound but I guess the right man is worth waiting for. Someone who does not think men are polygamous. A guy who’d be proud of you in front of his mama. Someone who knows how to respond to silent treatment in that time of the month. A guy not a boy. I know I sound like I wanna have the perfect one, trust me who doesn’t? I believe there is scarcity in my target population; however, it pays to believe and attract the scenario. After all, The Secret is one of the bestseller books of all time. While God is too busy writing the perfect love story for me, Imma drown myself with career, family and friends. Not to mention: fashion.

Spiritual. I am trying my best to focus on the relationship I have with Him. I know He’s all I need.

The wish list: WANTS VS. NEEDS.

In no particular order.

A Bible. Precious Moments or the hot pink tin can covered one.

A full body mirror. It does not have to be a European boudoir designed one. I just need a decent piece to check if the outfit jives and the makeup smudges.

Red luscious matte lipstick. There can be a small list for this one. From Nars, MAC, Cover Girl or even Avon. Red is love.

Mini treasure box for my cocktail rings and accessories.

Cocktail rings to add to my collection.

Soft pillows. I am dying to have a tempur. My wallet just can’t afford one right now. Frugal me thinks it is impractical at this time. Six grand for a pillow is just too much. Though I promise to get myself one eventually. If I already have a job that can give me a six digit paycheck.

Purse. Sexy ones. I find em girly and sassy.

Wallet. This is a need not a want. Saw one but too bulky. I want something with lotsa card slots.

A Mullbery Alexa bag. This one looks similar with a Birkin. Only sleeker.

Nars Blush On. Need I say more?

Wayfarers from Forever 21. So girly and chic.

La Senza basics. Red, Black and Hotpink. 38b! hahaha

Wii or Xbox. Something that can keep me physically busy. Grooving your way to size 2 is always sassy!

One year supply of free froyo. haha

LOVE. Am being patient and I know God has an awesome plan for me.

The Diary of a Young Man

Stumbling on a worthy blog makes my day. One boring moment at the office, I checked out what's on the tumblr radar. The image was shouting hope and attention from the "barker kids". I am familiar with them since I get to see one everyday.

It was a photo uploaded in one of the blog's categories/segments "Ten Questions" featuring jeepney barkers. How can I ignore such post? It revealed a lot about a kid who values education so much. My philanthropic self was moved. I felt the kid's sentiments and I was in awe for the writer.

I kind of assumed that he is really a journalist and someone who makes his hobby worthwhile. Photography is a fad nowadays and seldom will you see quality and message on a photo. However, this young man had it all. He made use of his vision and hobby to raise awareness.

Post after post, I was hooked. The Diary is my favourite. It is a bittersweet trip to his memory lane. He is full of love. Full of Emotions. Candid. Intelligent.

I don't think I should elaborate more on the writer, I want you to see and check for yourself. Only thing I can assure you is that you'll get hooked and feel for him.

God took time in creating this young man, for he almost got everything. Gifted.

I have been single in the purest sense for almost three years now. I may sound complaining and dying to be hooked again, but no. I just want to savour this chapter of my life waiting for the real and good guy.

Dianne sent me a link with all the quotes that I need to get through this stormy days and I realized everything was written based on cruel reality of how MEN think about relationships and how women should act towards it.

I can't stop myself from going to the nearest book shop last night our of excitement. Just a few minutes ago, it dawned to me that I can always google for the pdf file instead. (Sorry to the author) Voila! I found one! I will upload this to my Google Docs so I can read it if am on "petiks" mode at the office.

I barely remember how I found out about Divine Lee. As far as my memory can serve me, I think I first saw her in TV and I can't remember what show exactly. LOL

Her closet, branded shoes, bags and all wowed me. She was coined as PH's real estate heiress, pretty like Ivanka Trump. Both into modelling and the family's estate business,

their status does not keep them from being simple and down to earth.

Divine had been on my list of the finest women in PH who maintains their class, charm and kindness all at the same time. She had been helping people if she can. Just like when Ondoy hit PH, she and her friends went out of their way to give away relief goods to people affected.

That was unexpected. Really. I know some rich kids can be philanthropic, but I just never imagined her to be. haha oops, it's not like am saying that she can't be nice, but heck, SHE IS REALLY EFFIN NICE and KIND to do that. Ten thumbs up for that!

Her Birkins makes me jealous and leaves me being wishful. Her hair makes me appreciate my natural wavy hair. Her "gayness", I mean the language and perkiness makes me giggle every time I read a line. Her effort to answer every Tumbler post and questions proves that she can give a little of her time no ordinary people. She answers at her best.

Her sweet charm and smile brings sunshine to everyone. Her style is fierce. She can wear a white shirt and still look haute! Now that is simple seduction and flair.

Some people call them (Vic and D) as the Beckham and Posh Spice of the Philippines. Well, they have the right to claim it. She can be the Angelina Jolie too + Brad. =p

I can say all the nice and good things about her but it would never be enough to define the goodness and kindness under the fierce style and haute aura.

I will be forever thankful that once in my life, I have bumped into your accounts online. You inspire a lotta women and you make me proud of who I am. Simply because you appreciate all the women who adore and look up to you.

Room hunting: Check!

I am off to evacuate on Sunday to another haven nearby my old place. I have searched all over Quezon city for the perfect haven and voila, I found a good deal! Yehey for me! Been a gruelling week and am so stressed with all the pressure in finding the right area/room for me.

Thanks to Google for helping me. I can not stand "walk in viewing" of rooms and houses. Masakit sa paa and madumi! The fumes, dusts and bad dogs can get into my nerves in a snap. haha

The new place has free wifi access. My favourite feature! It makes me save up too. =) Since utilities are included and I do not have to pay for my lappy's energy consumption. GREAT. Some of the rooms and houses charge an extra for this one (yikes).

I will be staying on a small room on the fourth floor which means EXERCISE. haha The rooftop is heavenly at night. Overlooking cubao. Oh well, I know cubao isn't that nice for a view, but the breezy ambiance makes me feel like am in Antipolo/ Tagaytay! Nice.

I love how it feels now. The contentment and the hard work, long walks and stress paid off.

Will move on Sunday! Should fix everything so I won't have to rush when the day comes. =)

Valentines Day 2011

It's seven am and am in bed thinking of all the possibilities for today. It is my second valentines day in Metro Manila and I hope things will get better than last year.

Started my day by sending some love to two people I love the most in this Universe. Mom sent me love earlier than I can send mine. I am just blessed that the same people who have fallen in love 30 years ago are still the people who nurtures me and guides me every day. They never fall out of love and I guess time will never come for it.

Off to my facebook, the lovey lovey notes caught my eyes. I read away and got envious word after word. I am amazed how two people can be together for the longest time and share the same love. No matter how mushy they get I am sure they don't care anyway. It's valentines day! Everyone gets to have the immunity for mushiness and "corniness".

I am unsure where my heart is as of this writing. It has been crushed totally three years ago. Though I have patched everything up and forgave the responsible person, it will never be the same. Ooops, don't get me wrong, I am totally free from the heartbreak and better now. I just guess that my heart had a temporary amnesia. It does not know how to love "properly" nowadays. (lol) The kilig moments seems to be ordinary and not even inviting. I am turning 25 this year, not too young, not even old (I think so). Am I worried if the train will leave soon and will be left alone? Maybe not. As science can give me a kid nowadays, I am sure I do not have to worry over being growing old.

Seamus is a surgeon lawyer in GA, USA. He's been wooing me for almost a year now. I am getting impatient but do I have a choice? Or am I being stupid again? I don't wanna comment anymore. I am passing it on to the higher BEING. I know HE is good at writing destinies and love stories. So be it.

Valentine's day can be cheesy, happy or even ordinary for some. As for me, it would be Magical day today. Simply because I want it to be. Remember, happiness is a choice. So for singles out there, don't be a couch potato, go out and have fun. Let your love ones know how happy life can be. By CHOICE.

I can't seem to remember the first time I started using Twitter. At first I was hesitant to sign up since nobody from my friends are using it. I thought I would be lonely in twitterverse. Few days later, I was tweeting nonstop. I chose @etceterah for my username, just like the name of my online shop. I decided to use the social media to gain more visits to my shop. Until now, the number of my followers are equal to the people am following.

New Cellphone Call Rates

Mobile Companies are scheduled to follow the new "per pulse" rate for voice calls. This is good news for people since Christmas is near. Savings, it is. More people can call and spread the love. They just have to deal with the heavy network traffic. Eeek!

"The new scheme does not change the per-minute cost of cell phone calls but it will reflect calls lasting less than a minute.*

New rates will charge a flagdown of 3 pesos for the first two pulses, or a total of 12 seconds. Every succeeding pulse will then be billed. Each minute has 10 six-second pulses.

The resulting cost of a call per minute will still be P7.50 but calls under one minute will cost less. A 30-second call will cost P4.69."

This will take effect Sunday 12:01am (December 6, 2009).

I promised not to rant on my FB page since I know there are a lotta twihards out there, but I just can not stop. I am not afraid whatsoever. I just hate arguing about nonsense things. So Imma start typing my rant piece in here. They can comment as they want but am never gonna ARGUE. Okhay!?

I was eager to watch the movie since a lot of the book enthusiasts said that the movie was way better than TWILIGHT. That was something. I would rarely hear bookworms and movie junkies say something like that, so I was swooned. Oh before I forget, Taylor's abs really caught my attention. It was actually 75% percent of the reason why I watched New Moon.

The movie is totally for young twihards. As I love Stephenie Meyer's imagination, I just can't get why the movie and lines are too shallow. The audio was poor. I can't even hear every word from Edward. Boo. I almost fell asleep too. LOL. Bella ranks first in the list of hopeless lunatics, oops. Hopeless Romantics I mean. Sorry. If not for Taylor's manly body (@ 17) I would have left the theater. haha

The ending is a so so. I hate it. Too cheesy! Edward became as cheesy as hell! haha
That is why I automatically became a wolf lover. The abs can really do wonders. RAWR!

You've been talking about how you fell in love with her in the book. But what exact moment did you absolutely realize that she was the one for you?

We were in the same block when college began, so I always had my eye on her. We had exchanged a few words for a few weeks, but one afternoon when we weren't doing anything I struck up a conversation with her and before we knew it, the sun was setting, we both had to go home, and neither of us wanted to stop talking to each other. And I thought to myself, "This girl is really special." But I never thought we were meant to be. I didn't even think she liked me.

Now that you're not officially together, do you feel that she still is the one and why?

I used to think that there was only one person out there for me - or anyone for that matter. It's a romantic notion that I held on to for a long time. But now I realize that it doesn't work that way at all. I think there are a certain number of people out there who can be "the one". Some are a better fit than others, but perhaps the greatest measure of love is not in ending up with someone who Fate decreed was yours but choosing someone simply because you both want to make it work. I think that's more romantic, don't you?

What was ultimate breaking point in your relationship?

Now that it's been a while since the relationship ended I guess things are clearer, and I can say with a small degree of certainty that it wasn't any one thing that made the relationship end but a series of choices that we both made.

Not sharing a life makes a relationship next to impossible - and that happened when she left for the States. We were young. We didn't know that there was a price to pay for everything we did or didn't do. We thought we could survive anything because we were such a good pair. But relationships really require that you both make it work, and put the relationship first.

What was the cheesiest line you ever said to Andrea?

"I love you." Haha!

Do you have a term of endearment for each other? What does Andrea call you before?

I used to call her "Your imperial highness." I'll have to keep the rest secret or die of embarrassment. It's bad enough that my life is being distributed nationwide.

When was the last time you talked to her? When was the last meaningful conversation you had with Andrea and what was it all about?

As a matter of fact, yes, but I wouldn't call it a conversation as much as "meaningful" email correspondence. It's hard to give up old friends, even when they're ex girlfriends. We talked about other people mostly - Spider and his fear of commitment and how Connie really needs a boy.

If ever a movie version of your book was done, who would portray the main characters and why?

Kirsten Kreuk (of Smallville) would be Andrea because she's hot! Or maybe Gwyneth because she looks so smart... I, of course, would be played by Brad Pitt. Or Ethan Hawke, hehe. Okay, maybe Edward Norton...

I know this is corny but do you guys have a theme song? Does the song still hold true for you?

Sorry to disappoint you, but no, we don't have a theme song. We're not like that. But when you're in love, every love song is about the two of you, yes?

Weddings bells soon? What's your dream wedding? Number of kids?

No way! I've never really given a "dream wedding" much thought. Hmmm... Somewhere far away from crowds and unwanted relatives, I guess. Like Greenland. Hehe. Or the Scottish highlands. I'll wear a kilt. My bride will wear flowers in her hair.

In this day and age, I think having any more than two kids is a criminal act and should be punishable by law. Scarce resources spread over a large population equals real suffering, if not for your own children, for someone else's children. Do your part.

The often asked question -- what are your future plans whether be it personal or professional? Are you going to win Andrea back?

I could tell you now but I think it would just spoil the surprise because you can actually find out for yourself. Summit Books has recently commissioned me to write the next chapter of my life, and I'm wrapping it up right now. No, I do not die at the end.

At any rate, I work in advertising now, and I'm having a blast. One day in the future, I'd like to do what I really love, which is making films.

When did you start writing? Is writing a passion for you?

I wrote my first story when I was seven years old. It's all very embarrassing and the less said about it, the better. But yes, you can call it a passion.

What books are you currently reading? Who are your literary influences?

I'm currently stuck in the middle of two very thick books. The first is Gormenghast, a book that Sandman author Neil Gaiman named as one of his influences. It's actually quite fascinating but way too long. The second book is Stephen King's It. I can't seem to finish either.

How do you see yourself carving a niche in Philippine Literature?

Very slowly, and with a very blunt spoon. But I have years ahead of me.

What are your tips to aspiring writers?

Finish what you start. It's easy to start a book and say you're a writer, but much harder to actually finish one, even a short one like Vince's Life.

I’ve been thinking recently about soul mates and the chances of finding that soul mate. Why have I been thinking about this? Because I drink too much every night and wake up every morning with a dry throat and a dull headache, and thus cannot bring myself to start working until after several hours of staring blankly into space. But I digress. This piece is an attempt at quantifying the odds of finding that special somone, and contains some thoughts regarding how to increase those odds further.

Now, the first step is of course believing that your soul mate exists. I know a lot of people don’t believe that everyone has a soul mate, but for the purposes of this article, let’s just ignore them.

The tricky thing about this whole discussion is that the cosmos never bothered to lay down any ground rules regarding soul mates, so we’re unfortunately stuck making a bunch of assumptions. Here are the ones that I’m basing my calculations on:

1. Your soul mate exists, and is currently alive somewhere in the world. I’m not going to waste time calculating the odds of meeting a soul mate who was alive B.C., or will be born around the time the flying car goes mainstream. We’re going to assume that the cosmos was considerate enough to give you a fighting chance after all.

2. Your soul mate is of the preferred sexual orientation. This whole discussion would be pointless otherwise.

3. Your soul mate speaks at least one of the languages that you do. Again, it would be otherwise impossible to connect with your soul mate if you can’t speak a common language.

(Nota Bene: If you disagree with any of the items above, tough luck. I’m not doing your math for you.)

Given those three assumptions, you can compute the maximum number of potential soul mate candidates simply by multiplying the population of your chosen language by the percentage of your preferred sexual orientation. Let’s call this your Personal Soul Mate Index.

For example, my chosen language is English (1.5 billion native and non-native speakers) and my preferred sexual orientation is straight female. The global gender ratio is about 51:49 in favor of men, so I multiply 1.5 billion by 0.49, which would be roughly 735,000,000. I would then reduce that number further by 2% to get my PSMI (which is the alleged gay ratio), leaving me with 720,300,000 straight English-speaking females. If you were a gay male, you would multiply 1.5 billion by 0.51 and then again by 0.02, giving you a much smaller PSMI, at only 15.3 million.

(Note that you could also choose to totally ignore the language part of the equation and simply multiply your sexual orientation by the total global population, which is at 6.7 billion at the time of this writing.)

I’ll give you a moment to compute your own PSMIs.

All good? Great, let’s move on to the fun stuff.

So, the likelihood of me meeting my soulmate is roughly 1 in 720,000,000, and what we’re going to do over the next few paragraphs is work out just how “likely” that is. I’m a 27-year-old Filipino, and have a life expectancy of 71 years. That means I’ve got a potential for 44 more years of searching for that darned soul mate of mine. Let’s be more granular, and calculate how many days that is:

(365 days * 33 common years) + (366 days * 11 leap years) = 16,071 days to go

Let’s tack on the past 9 years of my life as well, or since I turned 18, i.e., legally capable of having sex with my soul mate should I meet her. (And if that sounds a little crass, I apologize. I’m sure you would simply lose yourself in your soul mate’s eyes forever.)

16071 + ((365 * 7) + (366 * 2)) = 19,358 days in total

We can express all of this very simply by saying that if I want to meet my soul mate and I am unlucky enough to have had to meet every single person in my entire PSMI before I finally meet her, I would have to see 720,300,000 people over 19,358 days starting when I turned 18. (37,209 people per day, or about half of the people who went to the Eraserheads concert last year.)

Does that sound discouraging? Let’s do some quick math to work out the problem.

I’m sitting at a Starbucks as I write this, and there are easily 30 other people in and around this place with me. I’ll walk back to the office and there are another 60 people there. Later tonight I’ll have dinner at the Fort, and will come into indirect contact with about 100 or so different people. If I were commuting, I’d get on to a train car with 50 other people all mashed up against each other.

Depending on how much you move around, you come in to indirect contact with about 150-200 unique people every day. Possibly even more than that if you really pound the pavement. That means that without drastically changing my lifestyle, I will see about 3,871,600 people over the course of my life or about 0.5% of my PSMI. Expressed in more practical terms, my chances of finding my soul mate at any point in my post-18 life is about 1 in 200. If you play Texas Hold ‘Em, this is roughly the same odds as being dealt pocket aces (220:1). (Interestingly enough, I’ve been dealt pocket aces about half a dozen times at Hold ‘Em that I can remember.)

Is that depressing? Yeah, a little bit. 20 years ago, that would be pretty much all she wrote too. But these days we’re fortunate enough to have a way to connect with thousands more at any given moment, i.e., the internets. I’ve got about 670 people following me on Twitter, about 250 friends on Facebook and have built a handful of little web toys that thousands of people use every day. Your own numbers will be drastically different of course, but the point is that we’re able to cheat the odds by making ourselves really visible online. In fact, if I assume that my soul mate is a straight female who speaks English and has Internet access, my PSMI is reduced even further. There are 1.4 billion people on the Internet, 430.8 million of which speak English, and 206.8 million of which are probably straight females. Now my chances are about 58:1, which in Hold ‘Em terms is roughly the odds that you would get a pair of aces, kings, queens or jacks in your pocket (54.3:1). If all that sounds a little fanciful, it’s really not. I mean seriously, what kind of cosmos would give me a soul mate that didn’t use the Internet? That would just be cruel. (Or for that matter, didn’t subscribe to poker hand probabilities.)

One way to look at the 58:1 ratio is thusly: if I had 58 times to relive my life, I would cross paths with my soul mate once. That sounds incredibly sad, so here’s another way to look at it: if you took 58 other guys with similar soul-mate indices as me, only one of us would find our soul mate. I like the sound of that a little bit more, but I’m not entirely sure it’s the right way to look at the numbers. Anyway.

Joining social networks and generating online content is the new-school equivalent of taking yoga classes or joining photography clubs in order to meet new people, and it’s a lot more cost-effective too. The idea of course is not to stop looking. Just because the odds seem stacked against you, doesn’t mean it isn’t possible. After all, according to the Drake equation, the number of other currently-existing civilizations in our entire galaxy could be as little as 2, and yet we still train our telescopes at the sky every night, waiting.

Yes, you've read it right. GPS can actually work here in the Philippines. I too became excited when I read Ms. Rowena's blog. It is my lifelong dream to navigate Philippines' major cities, especially Metro Manila!

But, I have one problem, I cant drive! haha Well, I've heard you can still use it while walking. haha

You don't even have to subscribe to any service, it works well with satellite signals. Just be sure you have a clear horizon.

Try uploading a photo in Facebook, take note of the URL of the image.. then delete it. After a month or so, try to check the Photo URL.. you might be surprised that the actual photo is still hanging around.

According to a research at Cambridge University, it takes a while for a social networking site to delete photos from their system. Like FB, photos uploaded and deleted from their system takes months to disappear. This is because, the photo vanishes only if the url is overwritten.

This was written a month ago...

Breakup can be really hell for some women, and I can attest to that. Few months after my graduation and a month before my license examination review started, my beau and I broke up. It was the hardest part of my life so far. Thank God, I managed to survive. Waking up each day, realizing that I'm back to being single was a torture. Getting ready for the big examination was so hard to do. So I decided to take one step at a time. Here are some tips (this is what I did):

1. Wallow in Depression!

Yes, it may sound so negative, but It is really the first step. Cry until your tear ducts dry out. Feel the pain and savor your misery. All people undergo depression after losing someone or something, so don't fret you are not alone and it is normal. Let all the negative emotions out and after that, you are ready to move into the next step.

2.The Clean Up.

Get rid of all the things that would remind you of your ex. Pictures, videos, and all the memorabilia, because the more you see it the more you will remember. This is one way of forgetting the good old memories and helping yourself to regain focus.

3.Have a temporary Amnesia.

Play like you never knew him. Delete him from all of your social network list (facebook, friendster etc.), contact list and address book. Stop checking websites that contain any info about him and fight the urge of calling and SMS-ing him. Cutting all the communication lines can do wonders.

4. Gather your armies.

Girlfriends can really help! Plan slumber parties, visit new places and take time to share your feelings. They won't be called FRIENDS if they can not listen. Laugh out with them, its the best medicine for this disease. =)

5. Pamper your self.

Go to the nearest salon and spa. Try every new trend and shop till you drop! There are a lot of reasons to be beautiful; you don't want to look horrible for you next prince right?

6.Focus on your Future and and bury the past.

Take new lessons (cooking, language, dance etc.). Venture into a business (I actually did this, I started an online shop out of boredom, I earned and it kept myself busy). Do everything that would help you focus on finer things. Establish goals that would inspire you to function at your best and would give you a better life ahead.

7. Believe in Love.

Relationships may have failed and hurt you, but it is not the end of the world. There are a lot of fish in the ocean. Don't lose hope, Love will once again knock in your door, and if it's true... IT WILL STAY FOREVER.

First Metro Manila Trip!

FIRST NIGHT
March 4, 2009

I arrived at the airport half past three pm. I was excited and nervous at the same time. It's my First flight to Manila and First plane ride (Cebu Pacific 5J-458 ILO-MLA). I was laughing at myself since I really didn't have any idea where to go and what to do. Thank God there's this "good samaritan" who was eager to help and guide me along the process.

Exactly 5:35pm we boarded. I got a window seat (yipee!). The view was nice and my heart pounded when the plane took off. It was like riding a roller coaster according to a friend. haha Well.. I loved the feeling! Ecstatic. After 45 minutes of boredom inside the plane, Metro Manila lights catched my attention. (parang xmas lights lang na nakalapag sa lupa) hehe

Lara and Nico were already waiting for me in BAY 8 of NAIA Terminal 3. While Phillip was still on his way to the airport. We headed to KFC Pasong Tamo for dinner (yes! Fastfood ang first na kinainan ko sa Metro Manila. eek).

Phillip was super late (mga 1.5 hours lang naman)... We headed to M.O.A (SM Mall of Asia) after dinner. It was not that nice. It's just a HUGE mall, nothing special.

Again, Phillip and I ate at Burger King.
Gahd. He made me gain weight in thirteen days!
We checked out seaside area and went home.

Day 2 March 5`09

Woke up late. Lara was off to work. I was left alone in the semi-creepy room doing nothing with an empty acidic stomach. Boredom was my only companion. AJ and I decided to meet near Cash and Carry and ate lunch at Tokyo Tokyo (shocks FASTFOOD na naman!).

He was on his way to Greenhills for work so he dropped me in Glorietta. I explored the place and I didn't find anything interesting.

Few hours later, I decided to check out Quezon City all by myself. haha The train ride was fun! It was like riding a rollercoaster level 1. HEHE

Quezon Av (MRT) is just 10-15 mins away from Ayala Station..and again.. Phillip was LATE! This time, he was late for effin 45mins. I was just standing in the station the whole time. I was really upset and starving!

Third Fastfood meal at McDonalds. SUPERSIZE KAE and Phillip. haha
After eating, we went to UPD. Heck! Gusto ko tuloy maging iskolar. Too bad. Madilim na nung dumating kami. So walang magandang picture! =p

After our 3km walk, we reached sunken garden. Mga one hour din kaming nakaupo lang dun then we headed home na.

Mental Note: I WILL VISIT UPD AGAIN! DAYTIME! hahaha

MANILA, Philippines—It is an unforgettable image—a couple on a bed in a soft embrace, wrapped in glowing fairy lights.

It is a beautiful photo, that will be clear to anyone. But for the members of the Flickr community, it is so much more. It is a fairy tale come true.

Once upon a time, two people found their way to the photo-sharing website Flickr.com.

Fate

Call it fate—24-year-old designer and photographer Aaron Nace and 17-year-old student and part-time waitress Rosie Hardy found each other’s photos on the same day. Rosie’s friend Natalie showed her Aaron’s 365 Days Project self-portraits. “I was so so so impressed and made a mental note to add him as a contact when I got home,” Rosie said.

She didn’t know it yet but Aaron had already found her then. “Upon seeing her images I just had to send her a message, it was like we had the same brain,” Aaron said.

And when Rosie got home, she discovered that Aaron had posted a comment on one of her photos and he had added her as a Flickr contact. “I was over the moon!” she said.

They clicked instantly.

Rosie loved Aaron’s playful sense of humor, the way he laughed at himself and how he wasn’t afraid to look silly. “I loved all his expressions and simultaneously loved how he could produce shots full of darkness and raw emotion—something I find incredibly captivating in photography,” she said.

Aaron thought Rosie had an amazing mind. “She has a special way of seeing the world and it all comes out in her photographs. No one can deny she is very special,” he said.

There was just one problem though: Aaron lived in Chapel Hill in North Carolina, USA, while Rosie was from Buxton, Derbyshire, England. But Aaron and Rosie didn’t let the distance get in the way.

The two started exchanging Flickrmails. Aaron said, “It became obvious quickly that we got along very well. We started writing to each other three times a day.”

“I asked him what our first date would be like. He then went on to write the first of many adventure episodes we write to each other,” Rosie said.

Writing adventures

Through their written adventures, even before meeting each other, Aaron and Rosie had “swum to the bottom of the ocean, dragged a giant singing clam to the shoreline and been abducted by small hairy men, swung through a jungle and jumped off cliffs to be taken by birds to huge rock towers with big yellow superslides, dressed in Batman and French maid costumes (Aaron was the maid, Rosie said) and defeated evil, built their own house filled with monsters, flown to make-believe lands of legomen in a spaceship and risked our lives to save each other.”

Writing those adventures meant a lot to Rosie. “Writing those stories and writing about each other’s characters before we knew the other person really proved how alike we were. His imagination completely captivated me from the start—all I wanted was to be inside his mind.”

Aaron felt the same way. “Somewhere through our adventure I was positive this was the girl I wanted to be with. The first time we spoke on the phone was the most amazing feeling i have ever had in my life. and every day since has been more amazing,” he said.

The two started chatting on Gmail and exchanging YouTube videos. Then Aaron started calling Rosie every night through Skype and they exchanged text messages all the time. “We talked for at least three hours a night and it is not uncommon for us to fall asleep on the phone together,” Aaron said.

Blooming romance

They first exchanged “I love you’s” during a Gmail chat. “I felt it was time to just jump out on a limb and I wrote I love you. It took her a second to respond, but she said I love you in return. I smiled for days,” Aaron said.

Rosie added, “I’d never told a guy I loved him before, so it was pretty big for me.”

Their romance bloomed before the eyes of the Flickr community. Soon, they were posting photos that were veiled love letters. Rosie uploaded an image of herself in a box with the caption, “Please Mr. Postman, Could you do me a favor? There’s somewhere I want to be.” Meanwhile Aaron made bold declarations of love with his images.

They also started working on a series of photographs which they called Collaboration Sundays, photos that were shot individually and edited to make it appear as if they were together.

Aaron soon announced that he was flying to see Rosie. “I knew from the second I first saw her photos that I would meet this girl, providing she didn’t think I was a total loser. Buying a plane ticket was something I didn’t even think twice about,” he said. Countless people online waited with bated breath for that day.

Face to face

It finally happened a couple of weeks ago. Three months after they first met online, Rosie and Aaron finally saw each other face to face.

Rosie talked about that day. “I was incredibly nervous! Me, my mum and my dad drove to Manchester Airport to pick him up and I was shaking like a leaf! Not because I doubted who I was about to meet, but because I felt like I needed him in my life so badly and I couldn’t bare to lose him. Obviously people look different in real life to how they do in their photos, so there was always that small thought in my mind that he would be disappointed in me. Luckily, he wasn’t at all!”

Aaron added, “It was amazing, I was nervous, but I was pretty sure everything would work out, within minutes it was like we have been around each other for a lifetime.”

Aaron will stay with Rosie in England for 17 days. They’re trying to do everything they can together—go to an amusement park, visit a zoo, watch shows, go kayaking, explore the country side, have a picnic and watch movies.

Rosie believes that they’ve made the best memories doing regular things, like “making breakfast together and having him chase me round the kitchen, waiting for a train at 11 p.m. and deciding to slowdance on the platform, going on an ice cream hunt in the middle of the night and walking through the town singing Disney songs at the tops of our voices!”

Aaron said, “We also have spent plenty of time just staring at each other in disbelief that all this is real.”

And together, they take lots of photos. Aaron and Rosie are very creative on their own and together they are even more so. They are currently in the middle of a self-portrait project featuring the seven deadly sins. The images they produce are surreal, occasionally creepy but always beautiful.

Everything

When asked what they love about each other, they had the same answer—everything.

Rosie said, “Everything. His silly faces in the morning, his silly accent, his silly crazy mind. I love how he not only accepts me for who I am, but loves me for it and inspires me to be a better person. I love how he sees me without makeup, hair a mess and still tells me he thinks I am the most beautiful girl in the world. I love how he makes positive out of everything, and thrives off his bad experiences. I love his honesty, his compassion and his thirst for life. I love how he is crazy to live and crazy to love.”

“If you’ve met her you wouldn’t be asking this question,” Aaron said. “Everything. She is the most amazing person I have ever and will ever meet. Period.”

Worldwide support

The Flickr community continues to watch their story unfold, every photo they post is received with so much warmth.

Aaron and Rosie have been amazed at the support people online have shown them. Aaron said, “It’s really amazing. It is hard to believe at times that so many people support us. Some have even said we have renewed their belief of love, I can’t think of a bigger honor. It really feels as though the whole world is cheering us on, how could everything not be perfect with support like that?”

Rosie said, “It’s outstanding. Incredible. The way other people have come together has really proved that love can overcome everything—age, 4500 miles, online relationships—not us. We have proved that we can overcome it as a couple, but the way people have reacted has shown that anybody at all can. And for that reason, these people have changed my attitudes about love and life, most definitely for the better.”

Their own families have been giving them the same kind of encouragement.

Supportive parents

Aaron’s parents have been very supportive. “My parents are absolutely in love with Rosie, I am pretty sure they would kill me if I didn’t marry her,” Aaron said.

Rosie’s parents feel as passionate about Aaron. “Age-gap wise, they were completely fine with it,” Rosie said. “My parents are 13 years apart. Aaron made them videos to introduce himself to them and they saw his photos all the time and saw how happy he made me. Of course, they were happy for us. Now that they met him, they adore him! My mum loves talking to him and my dad has told him that he wants his wardrobe.”

Plans

“Now that I am here, I never want to leave,” Aaron said.

Although the two will be saying temporary goodbyes soon, they are busy making plans for the future.

“We’re planning on getting me through college this year and onto university next year,” Rosie said, “then he’ll come here to live with me and we’ll get engaged at some point then. After I’ve finished uni, we’re planning on moving back to the US and setting up a business, and setting up a home—so marriage will be on the cards then.”

“The wedding will come within a year of our engagement, and we plan on getting engaged when we can live together. Hopefully everything will happen as we dream it will,” Aaron said.

One thing’s for sure—this is going to be one story they can tell their grandkids over and over again.

A 13 year old kid from England got his GF (15 y.o) pregnant on their first time! Oh no.
This scares the hell outta me! Is this really the trend now?

He looks like an eight year old boy!
He loves Play station and doesn't even have any idea how much a diaper cost. WHEW times two!

We try to come up with some explanation for why they’re behaving that way, any explanation, no matter how ridiculous, than the one explanation that’s the truth: He’s just not that into me.

Wasting time with the wrong person is just time wasted. And when you do move on and find your right person, believe me, you’re not going to wish you had gotten to spend more time with Stinky the Time-Waster or Freddy Can’t-Remember-to-Call.

For 22 years, I never noticed. I was busy pleasing everybody.

I have been the goodie good daughter..
..the one who never broke curfew rules when I was twelve...
..one who was scared of telling my mom about crushes and all..
..Dad's lil girl who does everything to remain as the apple of his eye..
..never demanded anything more than my mom's wallet can afford..

and at school.. I was..
..someone who's scared of failing marks.. 75 was not ok for me.. NEVER WOULD IT BE.
..I'd rather burn all my time doing all the groupworks/projects just to save my GRADE and my groupmates..
..The LIL-MISS-ITS-OK girl..
..kind enough to lend my assignments (without hearing a word)

with friends..
i tend to be so kind that sometimes its out of my limits..
i love keeping all my friends.. and i don't argue much with them.. I shut my mouth `cause i hate arguments!
